Newfoundland Camping Trip itinerary

The camping trip to PEI, NS and Newfoundland is fully booked and ready.  I will be posting our travel itinerary and some ferry info.  Here is our 2 weeks itinerary.

For ferry info, there are 2 ferry route from Sydney, Nova Scotia.  Ferry reservation can be reserved from http://www.marineatlantic.ca/en/.   Here is the 2 ferry route.

Route 1 (178 km):North Sydney, NS and Port aux Basques, NL
Duration: 6 to 8 hours

Route 2 (520 km):
North Sydney, NS and Argentia, NL
Duration: Approximately 16 hours

I choose Route 1 for shorter ferry ride and also closer to my destination (Gros Morne National Park). If your destination is St. John, Newfoundland, Route 2 will be best option for shorter driving and closer to St. John.

Additional info, there is 2 scheduled ferry from Sydney to Port Aux Basques most day.  There is only 1 scheduled ferry from Sydney to Argentia on specific day.  Please check the ferry schedule on the site http://www.marineatlantic.ca/en/.  Note, ferry fees will be different due to the travel duration.  Ferry fee to Argentia will be more expensive than Port Aux Basques.  Another consideration is the driving distance between Port Aux Basques and St. John is about 900km.

When travel to Port Aux Basques, there will be cost variation depend on ferry schedule.  On your travel day, if there is 2 scheduled ferry, travel during daytime is cheaper than night time.  The different in rate mostly is for room/cabin.  Night time cabin cost twice as much. Due to cost, I opt for travel during day time.  The ferry will departure at 11:45am for a 8 hrs journey to/from Newfoundland.

I have the following ferry reservation.
