Actual Route

Day 1 - July 6

Day 1

We left our home base very late.  We spend most of the daytime packing up and getting ready to departure.  Early morning, we have send off Chris at the airport.  Chris is not participate this annual trip.  He is on his own adventure at Philmont Ranch in New Mexico.

While we getting ready to depart, the summer thunderstorm roll through our area and cause some delay.  We cannot continue loading equipment/luggage due to the thunderstorm.  The rainstorm delay at least 3+ hrs till 8pm.  The rain slow down and no more thunder/lightning.  We took the slow down as advantage and finished up our packing/loading.  Finally, we are able to depart around 9:30pm.  Since we departed late, I will have to leverage overnight driving.  The rain not a deal breaker as the delay help with traffic easement and speed up border crossing.

We use I-95 north to I-93 north.  Cross into NH on I-93.  Drive I-93 to VT and merge into I-91 which end at Derby VT.

Beer in fridge.  This is my beer for the trip.

Day 2 - July 7

Day 2

We crossed into VT from NH.  We are driving on I-91 northbound.  Gas is almost empty.  We found a Cumberland gas station near Lydonville VT.  We filled up our gas tank as Gas is cheaper in US than Canada.  We arrived at the Derby Border around 2am.  The border crossing is a breeze.  There is no traffic at the border.  Pull up at the booth and hand our passport card to the Canadian immigration/border agent.  We are clear to enter Canada in less than 3 mins.  We are now entering Quebec Province.  With my passenger all asleep, I continue to drive toward Quebec City.  It's another 2 hrs drive to reach Quebec City vicinity.  I stop at a rest area to refresh myself/stay awake.  As I driving toward the City, the sun is rising at the horizon.

Prior to enter the Quebec city, I have to cross the mighty St-Laurent river.  I cross using Pierre Laporte Bridge.  Using the boulevard Champlain (Quebec Route 136) along the St-Laurent river, we entered Old Quebec City.  Due to early morning, there is literally no traffic on the road.  The sun is rising over the horizon.  The bright yellow ray shine over the river.  It was a beautiful scenery that I have to stop and take a few pics.  I found a parking lot where I can stop.  We crossed the road to reach the river bank.

As we approaching the city, the city still very quiet.  It's sunday early morning.  I hardly see much traffic on the road and people walking on the street. We pass through Quebec City with ease and hop onto the highway.  We head north.  Since we stopped for picture, most passenger already wake up.  They are enjoying seeing the scenery of the old Quebec City.  As we hop onto Quebec AutoRoute 440 and merge into Quebec Route 138.  About 10 mins from the City, we saw a beautiful falls on our left hand side.  We are now reach the famous Montmorency Fall.  Debating if we want to stop, we drove pass it.  I decide we should just stop and take some picture.  We make a turn on the next traffic light and head back toward Montmorency Fall direction.  I turn into the exit to the parking lot at the bottom of Montmorency Fall.  This is a C$12 paid parking lot if you enter during business/regular hour.  Since I'm entering the parking area at 7am, it's wide open and no one at the parking toll booth.  It's free entrance for us, which save use a few C$ for coffee.  Since it's early morning, the building is not open for business.  We decide not to visit the fall as we had visited the fall in 2014.

If you like to know more about this waterfall, check out the wikipedia link.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montmorency_Falls

In 2014, we visited this waterfall and hike from top to bottom.  It's a great hike if you're planing to visit.  If you have problem hiking the staircase, there is a easier way.  You can ride the gondola from top to bottom or bottom to top.  Since we parked our car at the tops of the waterfall, we take the ride up via gondola.

Let's continue our journey.  We left Montmorency Falls and continue our northbound.  Our next stop is a gas station.  Regards gas station in Canada, all gas price is the same.  So, no matter which gas station brand you choose, you won't pay less or pay more.  After fill up the gas tank, our next stop is Saint-Anne-de-Beaupre.  We stop here for some pics.
