Prior to travel day, this region still covered under snow. There was a snow storm on April 11.
On our travel day, we left Markham ON around 11am. After a good breakfast and packing lunch, we start our journey north. According to Google map, it will be less than 180 miles from our location. There is no major highway. We have to drive through local road and going through numerous local town. Traffic is 80kph mostly, but will slow down to 30 kph crossing local town. It was a 4 hrs drive.
We arrived the destination around 3:15 pm local time. First turn, the road is blocked. It was a bit dissapointed as we travel many hours to see road block. I decided to head north a bit more. I found another entrance to the campground. There was a sign posted, but road not blocked. I started to drive and follow the path. After about a few KM, we found the visitor center. It was closed for the season. The entrance gate is wide open. I saw a truck in front and this is a good sign. I followed the truck down the road. I see a vehicle coming toward me. Another good sign. At the end of the path, we found a parking lots with a few vehicles. A relieved as I think we found our destination. We parked our car and ready to have some late lunch. We packed some food before we left Markham ON. We had some takeout lunch box from Sam Woo BBQ.
I love BBQ pork & roast duck. That's what we have for lunch. 3 lunch boxes share between 3 kids & 2 adults.
I found a hiking info nearby. Hiking info to hike to Grotto.
After lunch, we ready to do some hiking. It's a 1.2 km trail. We start out using the easy trail.
The trail was easy and wide. I forgot to mention, the weather was in the low 70's when we start to hike. But the path still have snow.
After 15 mins walk along a lake, we see a rocky beach.
This picture is breathtaking. Water is torquise color, clear & ice cold, the beach is rocky and the cliff is high & steep.
The view that worth the 4 hrs driving time. Next, I try to find the Grotto. Knowing nothing about this, I'm assuming to look for underground cave. We asked some hiker and they point is to the cliff on our left hand side.
The Grotto is a underground cave made by strong wind & lake water. Due to icy condition, access to the Grotto is prohibited.
This is a beautiful National Park and I hope we could come back and camp in this area. August will be the best time to dip into the lake and swim to to the Grotto. Explored the Grotto.
For this trip, we are only limited to 3 hrs before the sunset. After enjoying the view and taking some photos, we are hiking back to the parking lot. We choose a different route. We hike along the rocky cliff to another rocky beach. We took a moderate level hiking trail back to the parking area.
This picture of water ripple is taken by my beloved daughter. I loved it so much and hope to share it to everyone. If anyone got a chance to visit this beautiful National Park, please stay a longer period and enjoyed the area. Georgian Bay (right side of the peninsula) is very nice. Lake Huron is on the left side of the peninsula.
